The Rugby season should this year prove a very interesting one, with teams from the Nelson and Golden Bay-Motueka unions playing combined competitions in the top three grades. The first major game on Trafalgar Park saw Waimea Old Boys stage a second-half recovery to beat Nelson 23-15. At top left Waimea drives through the Nelson defences and the ball comes free.

Nelson-United's entry into the Central League has also quickened interest in the soccer in Nelson. The two pix here were taken during the game with Naenae recently. A strong attack on the Naenae goal is repulsed (left) and, below, the Naenae goalie turns on the ground to watch a Nelson shot go wide of the posts.
