All Age Group Swimming
Seventy-two heats were required before finalists could be found among the 200-odd young swimmers who competed in the Nelson Junior Age-Group swimming carnival at the municipal pool. The carnival was an outstanding success, and this was due in no small measure to the efficiency of the officials organising the event. One hundred and fourteen events were completed in a day.
Placegetters in the length freestyle (8 years): Tony Baldwin (2nd), Carl Egan (1), Timothy Gladstone (3).
Prize winners in the girls' front crawl (8 years) were Shirley-Sid-cock (2), Vicky McConchie (1), Margaret Foote (3).
