The "Coast 50"
Twenty-six riders, ten of them visitors, comprised the strongest field yet to contest the Gisborne Amateur Cycling Club's open 50-mile road race....the "Coast 50"....which extends from the Kaiti School to the Waihau turnoff and return.
Riding his best race to date, 16-year-old Peter Veen of Gisborne, starting from the 19 minute mark, held off the strong visiting riders to win comfortably from Lawrence Cook (Napier) and Alf Baker (Wairoa).
