A spectacular accident involving 20 people and five vehicles occurred near the Showgrounds on the Gisborne-Makaraka highway last month. A three ton truck carrying a scrub-cutting gang of 16 was extensively damaged when it left the road and landed upside-down in a 6ft ditch. The other vehicles, two cars end two cycles, were slightly damaged. Thirteen people were admitted to hospital, seven of whom were seriously injured.

Three generations of Cardigan corgi dogs bred by Mrs C. J. Knopp, Tamarau, are from left: "West Country Jessica" (mother), "Tenby Taffina" (grand-daughter), and "Elkay Meri" (grandmother) who was imported and is a New Zealand Champion. "Tenby Taffina" is being exported to Mrs S. Tassell's kennels at Clayton, Australia. Although originally Welsh cattle dogs, Cardigan corgi dogs are becoming increasingly popular as house pets.
