Victory At Last

After "knocking on the door" for the past six years, Waikanae's efforts to win the blue riband of national surf life-saving, the Senior Six-Man Rescue and Resuscitation, were crowned with victory at the New Zealand championships held at Lyall Bay this month. Waikanae also took second place in the senior 4-man Alarm R and R event.

In exuberant celebration of their victory, Waikanae surfers, on iearning the result, tossed their coach, Ivan Wilson, into the "drink", fully clothed.
