Surf Carnival At Midway

A big crowd turned out to watch the annual Northern Regional surf carnival at the Midway beach, when the weather although cloudy was hot and humid. There was practically no surf.

Only three outside teams competed, and a notable omission for the first time in years was the Gisborne Ladies Club. The event also clashed with the Hawkes Bay swimming championships and three or four of the district's top swimmers were absent.
