Torrential Rains

A month of indifferent weather reached a climax one night last week when torrential rains lashed portions of the East Coast. At Mahia serious damage was done to communications on the peninsula. At Te Puia Springs, roads became impassable. At Gisborne, where nearly an inch of rain fell in an hour, flooding occurred in many parts of the city.

A massive slip occurred on the bluff at the southern end of Kaiti Beach, where a big slice of hill came down and plunged into the sea.

Constable R. P. Rohan, son of Mr and Mrs P. Rohan, 542 Aberdeen Road, who has graduated from the Police Training School at Trentham. Constable Rohan, who has been training for 19 months, came first in the course to win the Minister's Prize. He was also top in the first-aid course.
