Larry Looks Us Over

Larry Adler, the world-famous mouth-organ-man who hoisted the harmonica into the realm of higher-class music, paid Gisborne a surprise visit at the conclusion of his short New Zealand tour.

He didn't come in a public capacity, but at the invitation of Gisborne's P. R. O., spent a weekend here meeting the Maori people. They gave him a characteristically warm and friendly welcome.

An unusual man, whose instrument belongs in the pocket, but whose temperament and outspoken comments on New Zealand suggested the status of a testy genius, Adler indicated that this country was a write-off as far as he was concerned....all except his Gisborne visit, which he named as the bright spot of his tour.
