Fun On The Courts

Poverty Bay representative basketball players of other years stopped being wives and mothers for a spell one Saturday afternoon last month to take to the courts again. Their opponents were the present P.B. representative team.

By slipping in an extra player or two in the second spell, and with the tolerant aid of the referee, the old-timers excelled themselves and won the game by 13 goals to 12.

The past players, determined to look the part, dressed in present-day uniform, and often played with a good turn of leg, as can be seen in the picture.
Present players, by contrast, wore the long gym uniforms of the '20's, when waists were at an all-time low.

Brakes on!

Mary Rigney, who played a perky game at centre, sparked many an attacking movement for the Past Players. Looks here like K. Henderson is about to draw a gun and shoot her down.

Still fit as ever, Mrs Gregg scoops in the ball in duel with Present Player.

After the game, some of the Past Players pose with some of their children. They were interested spectators while their mums bounded about on the basketball courts like they were a bunch of teen-agers. Maybe it didn't feel like that later on!
