Poverty Bay Defeats King Country

Poverty Bay chalked up their 100th victory when they defeated King Country at Rugby Park by eight points to three, in a hard, keenly contested game.

Played under ideal conditions, the game was primarily a forward tussle with the lighter Bay pack taking the honours over the star-studded King Country forwards. Notable players on the field were the Meads brothers and the Bay's Irwin and Rowlands who all played good, sound rugby, but credit must also be given to the Bay hooker, Drew Stein, who out-hooked his opposite, Maori All Black, Bill Wordley, by twenty-four to fifteen.

Pictured below is Poverty Bay's "Lion of the Lineouts", Doug Fee, who always manages to out-jump them all.
