Representatives from Dannevirke, Waipawa, Waipukurau, Hastings, Napier, Wairoa and Gisborne attended the provincial conference of the Plunket Society held last week in the War Memorial Hall. They were welcomed by the Gisborne president, Mrs A, Christie, and the Mayor, Mr H. H. Barker, and addressed by Dr. N. Begg, M.R.C.P., F.R.C.P.E., D.C.H., the Society's director of medical services. Dr. Begg's address included a warning that a wave of poliomyelitis in epidemic proportions was a distinct possibility this coming summer. He urged young mothers and pregnant women to have a course of Salk injections now.
