"Made In Gisborne"

One of the most interesting exhibits at the Industries Fair was this example of a motor-car which was actually made in Gisborne.

The "Carlton", as the car was named, was one of those made by the late Mr G. Burch back in the early '20's. Mr Burch was an engineer who started making cars in Blenheim, and carried on after moving to Gisborne. As far as is known, only two Carltons were made. When the enterprise failed, one was sold as a truck to a Hawkes Bay farmer, and the other went along as "spare parts". The truck was recovered recently from a Hawkes Bay plantation, where it was lying derelict, and has been restored with loving care by members of the Gisborne Car Club.
