Debutantes At St. Mary's Ball

At the seventh presentation ball of the pariah of St.Mary's, Star of the Sea, held in the Army Hall last month, ten debutantes made their curtsey to the Most Reverend Dr. J. M. Liston, D.D., Bishop of Auckland. Although the weather was most inclement for the occasion, the ball was an unqualified success. The hall was most elaborately decorated, with the ceiling completely covered with fine net, from which were suspended coloured flax mats and white trellises woven with flowers, with a large iridescent chandelier as centrepiece, while the walls were covered with trellises laced with greenery and flowers. Above the dais was a mural depicting a stormy sea surmounted by a large star.

The debutantes were taken to the dais by their escorts and after the presentation and official photograph, and a short address by the Bishop, rejoined them for the debutante waltz.
