The Indians At Gisborne

With four Olympic players in the team, the Indian Wanderers put on a magnificent display of fast hockey when they came to Gisborne last month and played the local representatives at Childers Road reserve.

At no stage of the game did the visitors lose their mastery over the Gisborne players, but as the unequal contest progressed, the home team began to find counters to the racing Indians, and their sterling work on defence reduced the visitors' goals to four in the second half. The final score was 12-nil. A crowd of 3000 watched the match.

The story of the early goals. Before P.B. defenders learned to break fast, Charanjit Singh has plenty of time to stop penalty corner ball for Gurbax Singh to shoot like a bullet for goalmouth.

Toppo, the Indian left-winger, gained the crowd's plaudits time and again for brilliant sorties down his side of the field. Here he jiggles a ball past P.B. captain H. Underdown.
