Some Facts About "Photo News"

Here at "Gisborne Photo News" we have pleasure in reporting that our net paid Circulation Now Exceeds Seven Thousand Copies A Month.

When the first issue came out in 1954 sales were only 900. The staff then was 1½ (the editor-printer and his wife, part-time). The magazine was printed on a machine the size of an office duplicator.

Today our offices and factory cover 2000 sq.ft. (shortly to be extended to over 4000 sq.ft.) Our staff numbers 14. The tiny press has now grown to a young giant 14ft long, which produces 24,000 "Photo News" magazines every month, published in four cities.

The name "Photo News", which we adopted in 1953 from a newspaper published in Owatanna, Minnesota, U.S.A., has become a household word throughout much of the Dominion.

Surveys show that our magazines are widely-distributed and even more widely read. Some copies are read by over 30 people. From these surveys we have estimated that the 7000 copies of "Gisborne Photo News" are read by upwards of 50,000 people of all ages.

Of this number, between 10,000 and 15,000 live beyond the borders of our circulation district, in other parts of New Zealand and overseas.

Our monthly message to all these people is: "Gisborne Is A Good Place To Live And Work In". This we try to express in pictures and text illustrating the life and times of this community.

A measure of our success in this mission was voiced the other day by a Scotsman who called to see us. He is a regular reader of "Photo News".

He said: "Although I live on the other side of the world, I feel I know more about Gisborne than I do about my own home town, through reading 'Photo News'."

A friend sends him a copy every month. Why don't you do the same?

Send A Friend A "Photo News".....it's a good ad. for a good town.
