Members of junior soccer teams playing in the Gisborne association competitions this year pictured with their trophies at a prizegiving function held to mark the close of the season.


This heavy petrol tanker plunged 40 feet into the Motu River and trapped the driver, Mr D. Kane, head down in the cab under 3ft of water. He managed to escape through a broken window with only scratches.
Monks duly recovered the truck and brought it back to Gisborne.
