Mr Tolerton Retires

A round of farewell functions marked the retirement of Mr F. Tolerton, general manager of the Gisborne Refrigerating Company Ltd., on his last two days at the "works". He was first met by members of the Freezing Workers' Union in the "beef house", and presented with a silver tray and set of crystal glasses. Later the engineers, carpenters and other tradesmen gathered to present him with two travelling bags, an electric jug, and an envelope, and on the following afternoon he was honoured by the administrative staff with the presentation of a set of travelling rugs.

Mr Tolerton, who has been associated with the freezing industry for 63 years, believed to be a record, has served in the district for more than 40 years, during which time he has earned an enviable reputation as an able, fair, and friendly administrator, held in affectionate regard throughout the works.
