Football Fluctuations

On a bright, sunny afternoon, with a strong westerly breeze blowing downfield, Poverty Bay rugby supporters had to take a very dim view of the match with Bay of Plenty. By half time, the visitors were in the lead 16 points to 9, playing against the wind. With this ally on their side in the second half and the lowering sun at their backs, the big men from the Bay were expected to give the local boys a proper thrashing.

But such are the inconsistencies of football, and the P.B. team in particular, that the home side sprang to life in the second half, and against both wind and sun, and a tiring Bay of Plenty side, they ran up the points to make the score an exciting 19 points all with only minutes to go. Unfortunately, the minutes produced another try for the visitors, and the game ended: Bay of Plenty 22, Poverty Bay 19. It was a good game to watch, with plenty of surprises.
