Unwelcome Visitor

Thirty or forty tons of whale, very dead, and minus its head, arrived on Kaiti Beach one day last month, and presented the Harbour Board with a difficult disposal problem. A big hole was dug in the sand with the idea that the carcase would be bulldozed up the beach and buried, but in the battle of bulldozer v. whale, the whale was an easy winner. This having failed, the monster was pushed back into the sea and towed away to some place else. Pictures here show progress in the day-long disposal job.
