Local Finalists in Mrs N. Z. Competition

Large entries were received at Station 2XG for the Mrs N. Z. Competition, which is being conducted on a national basis by the commercial broadcasting service.

From the pile of entries, ten were selected as semi-finalists. The winner of the local section, "Mrs East Coast", will go forward to compete in the national final.

The local winner will be announced on July 28.

Entrants, it was announced, "should be women of charm, poise, and pleasing personality", and should possess a reasonable knowledge of general affairs.

Pictures of the semi-finalists were taken by Mayfair Studios.

Checking the entries are Mr Fowler, the station manager, Mr Nation, the programme organiser, and Miss June Irvine, of the Women's Hour.

The chosen ten were later entertained to afternoon tea.

Mrs Yolande Conole, 105 Harris Street. Born in Napier; worked as a clerk; has three children.

Mrs Pennie Hill, Gladstone Road. Christchurch born; at present in business in Gisborne; two Children.

Mrs Mary Morse, 32 Salisbury Road. Born in Napier, where she worked as a clerk; seven children ranging in age from 21 months to 16 years.

Mrs Dorothy Owen, 16 Dominion Road. An "Aussie," born in Melbourne, but a Kiwi since 1915; was a confidential secretary; three children.

Mrs Margaret Pilcher, 76 Atkinson Street. Born in Gisborne; formerly a private secretary and a member of the Wrens; three children.

Mrs Leslie Pittar, 180 Cobden Street. Also a Gisbornite; trained as Karitane nurse, and travelled widely; two young children.

Mrs Rona Roach, "Glen Tui", Te Karaka. Born in Winchester, South Canterbury; a school teacher; three children.

Mrs Patricia Sheehan, 58a Russell Street. Another "mainlander", born in Christchurch; formerly a commercial artist; three children.

Mrs Margaret Sinclair, 43 Hospital Road. A Wellingtonian; science graduate of Otago University; former bacteriologist; two children.

Mrs Shirley Spence, Pamoa Station, Waingake. Was born in Blenheim; secretary before her marriage; two young children.
