Here's mud in your eye! Well, that's how it often seems to Gisborne residents when the tide is out. What the effect is on visitors can only be discovered by asking a visitor. It is not usually very complimentary. Councillor Turbitt made a suggestion at a recent City Council meeting which received wide support--that the central mud flats be reclaimed to provide parking space. All such proposals to rid the city of these eyesores are put to one side on the grounds that more essential works must come first. More rapid progress might be made by the formation of an independent committee of enthusiasts, to work under direction of the local authorities, raise funds, and get on with the job.
