The arrival of the ship Argentinean Reefer twelve days ago was a tragic occasion for the Port of Gisborne. While turning the ship in the harbour basin, the Harbour Master, Capt. McKenzie-Smart, died suddenly on the ship's bridge.
Captain McKenzie-Smart, who served his apprenticeship in deep-water sailing ships, was born in Aberdeen, Scotland. Aged 70 at his death, he was harbourmaster from 1939.
