Red Cross Boys In the Field

Red Cross cadets from many parts of the North Island gathered in Gisborne during the school holidays to compete in the Dominion competitions.

In addition to tests held indoors, the boys journeyed to Rimunui station to to compete in field exercises.

These pictures were taken while a Karori team was engaged in the exercises, requiring the boys to proceed in rough country by compass bearing, discover a "casualty", give first aid, construct a stretcher on location, and cook a meal.

The Gisborne team, holders of the Henri Dunant Shield, the premier trophy, comfortably retained the title.
