The Changing Face of Gisborne City

It's time again to record some of the larger and more interesting changes taking place in Gisborne city. (Some readers may query why we devote space to subjects which can be seen every day of the week by anybody who's interested. The reason is that thousands of readers who do not live in Gisborne like to know what's going on in this line).

The enormous Government Buildings in Read's Quay, on the corner of Lowe Street, take pride of place in the city's present building programme.

The finishing touches are now being made to the Morris Convalescent Home, Cheeseman Road, Kaiti. The home looks out over the Waimata River.

About 150 primary pupils of Marist Brothers High School will start the new term in the Edmund Campion College at the corner of Nelson Road and the Main South Road. In this picture, the builders are putting the finishing touches to one of the classroom blocks.
