Te Wiremu House Dedication

Te Wiremu House, in Aberdeen Road, the Waiapu diocesan home for the elderly, was formally dedicated and blessed recently by the Bishop of Waiapu, the Rt. Rev. N. A. Lesser.

Te Wiremu is the second home for elderly people to be built in the diocese of Waiapu through a trust set up by the Williams family, members of which occupied a prominent place at the ceremony.

The £50,000 building is built in concrete block veneer with an iron roof surfaced with granite chips on mastic. In both these respects the building is new to Gisborne, and should require a minimum of maintenance.

On the northern side of the home, a wide verandah and covered terraces at the end of bedroom wings provide sheltered places for relaxation outdoors. The courts between wings when planted will become enclosed gardens.
