Gisborne Rowers at Wanganui

Three times in the last six years the Gisborne High School's rowing eight has filled one of the first three places in the Maadi Cup contest, the premier rowing event of the year among secondary schools.

This year at Wanganui, the Gisborne boys finished third, about two lengths behind the winners, King's College (Auckland). In second place were the Mt. Albert Grammar School team. Trailing Gisborne were New Plymouth Boys' High, Wanganui Technical, Wanganui Collegiate, Hamilton Boys' High, and St. Kentigern's College.

Gisborne's performance was considered exceptional in view of their complete lack of competitive rowing before entering the contest.
