Farm Site for New Hospital

Although the Cook Hospital Board favoured another site, the Government has decided that Gisborne's new hospital should be built on the site of the Hospital Farm, half a mile west of Hospital Hill.

The decision will mean the end of farming operations by the Board.

These have been carried out for about 40 years, and have often been the subject of criticism by those who contended that running a farm was no function for a Hospital Board.

At present the farm, consisting of 73 acres, valued at £43,960, runs 64 cows, 100 pigs, and 1500 poultry.

Revenue last year, at £8000, was £400 to £500 more than costs.
