Record Crowd at Carnival

Although the day remained dull throughout, attendance at this year's Autumn Carnival run by the P. B. Agricultural and Pastoral Association set new records.

The gate was £1102, compared with £747 last year.

Big attraction undoubtedly was the appearance of a number of trotting horses from Rotorua in a series of races, betting on which was handled by an equalisator, to the tune of £3500.

Another attraction was provided by members of the Gisborne Go-Kart Club, whose noisy little cars gadded round the grounds at high speed. Sometimes (above) they weren't even on the ground.

Scottish dancing and school gymnastic displays, plus a good sideshow section, rounded out the programme, along with a demonstration by the Turanganui Pony Club.
