37-year-old Record Broken

At the Gisborne invitation athletic meeting held at the New Year, a 37-year-old record went by the board when Maurice Roderick threw the senior hammer 162ft 10in. The previous record of 153ft 11½in was established by an American, Jack Merchant, during a visit to Gisborne.

Alan Parkinson, who won the mile race at the meeting. Later, at an evening meeting, Parkinson broke the H.B.-P.B. six mile record.
