Where Every Second Counts

The speed and skill with which firemen can run out hoses, couple up, and bring a stream of water to bear on a target, count when there is a fire to fight... and when they are competing against other brigadesmen in competitions.

On these pages Gisborne and Wairoa firemen are seen competing in an inter-brigade contest last month.

Acting as marshall for the competition was ex-deputy fire chief Drummond, who retired from the brigade last year, but still retains a keen interest.

On this page the Gisborne "A" team is seen in a series of eight pictures taken during the Union Event. The team is now training and expects to go to Greytown at Easter to compete in the Wellington District contest.

Left to right in the first picture they are Peter Anderson, Doug Fee, Ron Anderson and Neville Lucas.
