The "Endeavour" Launched

The Gisborne Yacht Club's handsome new pick-up boat, the "Endeavour", was launched just before Christmas at the club slipway. The boat has since gone into service, and is proving a real acquisition for the club in supervising yacht races in the bay.

The "Endeavour" didn't take kindly to the water at first. A slight hitch in the launching ceremony caused a delay between the.champagne and the sea, but after some manhandling, the craft was edged into the water. Once there she looked perfectly at home. Thanks to public generosity and the committee's efforts, "Endeavour" was launched free of debt.

Roving out Tatapouri way one day in the holidays, we came across these charming sea-creatures. A closer look revealed them to be Lorna Brownie and Robyn Strachan. Catching no fish out on the rocks, they dressed up in seaweed for the fun of it.

Perhaps this picture illustrates best the kind of weather Gisborne "enjoyed" during the holiday spell. It shows thunder-clouds over Makarori.
