Workshops Destroyed

Considerable risks were taken when fire broke out in the garage and workshops of Mr Colin Isabeth at Taruheru about midnight on August 25. When the outbreak was first noticed, Mr Isabeth dashed into the burning building in an endeavour to rescue a valuable truck, but the intense heat forced him to retire as part of the roof collapsed. When brigadesmen arrived, their work became hazardous when drums of petrol and acetelyhe welding cylinders began exploding. One fireman was knocked to the ground, and an onlooker's cheek was grazed by a flying splinter of steel.
