Hori's Page

Basketball Girls:

The teams above were snapped by the Roving Hori at the opening of the Tolaga Bay season.

At left is the High School A team. Centre, the Old Girls team captained by J. Watson, a P.B.-E.C. representative player.

At right, the Hauiti team, which leads the local competition, and lost out to Whakatane, the Bowie Cup winners, in the semi-finals of the Queen's Birthday tournament: E. Hura (the captain), H. Kutia, J. Bartlett, ————, M. Alywald, D. Haere, and Z. Bartlett. Absent, Q. Gray.

Picture at right was taken about 1910-12 at Tolaga Bay, and shows stud sheep, probably for the Kiore Sheep Company being unloaded from the launch Hauiti at the jetty close to the present bridge. The bridge in background of this picture was destroyed in the 1916 flood.
Helping with the unloading, nearest camera, is the late W. Prince, a son of whom is now in business in Ormond Rd. Man in cap is Capt. Jack Lockwood, a member of a local sporting family, who still lives in Tolaga Bay.
