Tramping and Canoeing

More than 60 members and guests attended the first annual dinner of the Gisborne Canoe and Tramping Club held recently, when venison steaks were a notable item on the menu.

Other pictures on these pages were taken on recent club trips.

Twenty-one members of the club took part in the club's Easter tramp over Rua's Track, from the Morewa Station beyond Rere, across the headwaters of the Hangaroa and Ruakituri rivers to Ruatahuna, on the Waikaremoana-Rotorua road about 20 miles from the lake.

Of particular interest was their visit to the derelict village of Maungapohatu, which once sheltered a thriving but isolated community of 400 persons.
