Easter Monday Thrills

A big crowd assembled at the showgrounds on Easter Monday to see motor-cycle and midget cars in a thrilling display of fast racing. The meeting was conducted by the Gisborne Motor-cycle and Midget Car Club. Midget car racing has developed among Gisborne enthusiasts since the initial meeting here last year, and the local boys gave the visitors from Te Awamutu and other centres plenty of competition.

As usual, Brian Scobie (Te Awamutu) gave spectators their money's worth, whether driving a midget or on a motor-cycle.

Scobie leading Neil Morrow in the straight Only one car overturned all day, and there were no injuries.

Here's that man Scobie again, in the best picture our junior photographer, John Logan, took during the day. As dust flies, he heads Julie Benson, of Gisborne, left, and Len Jalaca from Huntley.

And away they go. Even Ben Hur didn't make that much dust.
