A "welcome to New Zealand" party was given at Rugby Park pavilion recently for Mr and Mrs S. G. Morby, from Northamptonshire, England. In the photo Mr Morby (left) is seen with his sister, Mrs Sue Jones, of 88 Chalmers Road, At the right are Mrs Morby and Mr Jones.
Mr and Mrs Morby arrived in N.Z. by the Rangitikei on Feb.18.

Mrs Annie Laugher, 55 Roebuck Road, one of Gis-borne's oldest native-born residents, recently celebrated her 80th birthday.

Mr Charles William Ferris, whose death occurred last month in the Wairoa Hospital, at the age of 93. Mr Ferris lived most of his life at Wainui Beach, and was known far and wide for his unusual and fearless methods of fishing. After attracting sharks with bait, he would walk out into the sea and attack them with a harpoon, A son of Captain C. W. Ferris, a distinguished soldier in the district's early days, he held large land interests on the East Coast, inherited from his mother.
