Ladies' Day On A Gisborne Beach

On one of our really hot Sunday mornings last month, two of the girls from the touring show, "Ladies' Night in a Turkish Bath", went down to Waikanae Beach with a "Photo News" camera man to sample the delights of the local surf. They were Robin Macdonald and Louise Matheson, both of Sydney.

There was a good surf running, and there were yachts galore a-sailing in the bay. The girls were most impressed. They didn't want to leave. So they stayed on for the whole morning and caught their railcar, bikinis and all, direct from the burning sand and the big breakers.

Robin and Louise lost no time making for the cool, cool breakers at Waikanae. Every bit as good as Bondi, they declared. Coming back up the beach after their swim, who should they discover but our friend with the telescope (left).

Now, we thought, that's one way of taking in the charms of the Turkish Bath beauties, but he reckoned no, it was the yacht race he was focussed on.

The girls helped him get those white sails squarely in the lens.

Robin wasn't happy until she had discovered for herself just what could be seen from Waikanae on a fine day with the aid of a good old-fashioned telescope. We'll leave it to the camera!
