Undoubtedly one of the country's most redoubtable shearers, Mahunga Horsfall is seen here shearing at Parikanapa Station, Waerenga-o-kuri, on the occasion last December when he broke the N. Z. lamb shearing record with a tally of 470. This record has since been broken with a tally of 474, but Mahunga's performance is rated very highly because he was shearing under ordinary working conditions on fullwooled Romney lambs. His successor was shearing Cheviots. Mahunga's figures were: 2 hours before breakfast, 102. Four runs of 1¾ hours, 93, 95, 90, and 90.

Biggest snapper of the season to be successfully landed in local waters (as far as "Photo News" knows) was this 24 1b beauty, seen here with the man who hooked it, Jack Rushing, of the Makaraka Service Station. It was caught with a rod and a 171b nylon line. Length, 34in; girth, 29in, Mr Rushing took over the service station of recent times, having previously lived at Oakura, near New Plymouth.
