Prize Ryegrass

A notable point regarding this international seed fair is that of the eleven N.Z. entries, six gained first place, three seconds and two thirds.

Second placing in an international competition championship is no small feat. Such was the award made to Mr W. C. Pilmer (right), a veteran farmer, who first started farming in this area in 1916.

The second placing for perennial ryegrass was achieved at the 1958 Western Washington Fair, from seed grown by Mr Pilmer and dressed by the Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., whose seed-dressing plant and staff is pictured below right.
