At Cook's Cove

×

When Captain Cook visited what is now known as Cook's Cove, over the hill from Tolaga Bay, his men were greatly intrigued by a tunnel through the hill, joining Tolaga Bay with the valley above the cove. This picture, taken from the Tolaga Bay side, shows a group in the mouth of the cavern including Dr. J. C. Beaglehole, of Wellington, historian and editor of Cook's journals.
