25 Years Old

The annual cabaret evening of the Gisborne Repertory Society had a special significance this year as a celebration of the society's 25th anniversary.

The Poho-o-rawiri meeting house was gaily decorated for the occasion, which was largely attended.

Pictures on this page were taken during a short visit by "Photo News". At right are the president and vice-president of the society, Mr Law and Mrs Swindell.

If any two people can be labelled as pioneers of Repertory in Gisborne, then it would naturally be Misses Ellen Millar and Cora Oman pictured here in their Elizabeth Bonnets shop in Peel Street.
Miss Millar produced not less than 34 plays for the society in the first 20 years. In the same manner, Miss Oman has either played or prompted in over 30 productions .
