Holy Trinity Church, on the corner of Derby Street and Palmerston Road has taken on a new look in recent times. The whole of the concrete tile roof has been removed, and replaced with new aluminium tiles in a grey shade tinged with pink. The new tiles are extremely light, can be cut with a pair of tinsnips, and nailed into position. About 3000 in number, they were imported from Australia.

A rarity in the district was this wallaby, shot by Mr J. Muir at Tangihana Station, in the Patutahi district.
The dead animal was photographed at the Poverty Bay bowling club, and was responsible for some concern on the part of the caretaker, Mr Jack Breingan. He had been setting a trap for a rat for some time. The club wags put the wallaby in the trap. Mr Breingan was reported to have broken the backwards long jump record when he found he had caught the largest rat of all time.
