Water for Beer

Beer is only as good as the water used to make it, which is why the Gisborne Brewery, back in 1897, built a pipeline five miles long.

The pipeline brings a very special water all the way from a hillside spring at Hexton, and this water has been a major factor in the quality of Gisborne brews ever since.

Even in driest summer for 30 years, the spring still overflows into creek (foreground).

This is vertical view into well, several feet deep. Note outlets into pipes at right. The water is so clear it appears non-existent to the camera's lens, aided by electronic flash.
