Hill Billies On The High Seas

Gisborne's well-known entertainment combination, the Hill Billy Band, is often called on for entertainment. The show they put on for the Springboks was one of the highlights of that team's visit.

Before the evening had drawn to a reluctant close, Captain Evans (right) was enthusiastic operator of wash-board. Chief Refrigeration Engineer Geoff Gillman (with pipe) manipulates horn against opposition from crew member. Behind the captain, Radio Operator Laurie Whitehead takes turn on the guitar.
