News of "Photo News"

Although many weeks have now passed since "Photo News" made application to the Department of Customs for a "survival licence" to enable it to continue publication, no advice had been received early this week. Either a licence for "Photo News" to import sensitised process film, or a general relaxation of restrictions on film for the entire photographic industry, is necessary if publication is to continue.

Representations are still being made to Wellington, from where advice was received last week that information relating to the use of sensitised materials was being assembled, and that a decision might be made this week.

Meanwhile, "Photo News" is living from issue to issue on the generous assistance of photographic wholesalers and other friends, to whom we extend our heartfelt thanks.

We feel confident, in view of statements made by responsible members of the Government, that relief will be given in due course. The last statement from the Minister of Customs, Mr R. Boord, reads as follows: ".....The Government is examining the possibility of making some additional funds available in order to maintain supplies of film and other sensitised surfaces for industrial and professional users to enable them to continue to render service to the community."
