Ballroom Dancing Championships

Record entries were received for the Poverty Bay ballroom dancing Championships held during Easter, in the Army Hall at Gisborne.

Pictures above and below show dancers in action on the floor. Many dancers from other parts of New Zealand competed, including the present New Zealand champions, Mr D. Bethel and Miss G. Mason, Palmerston North.

Most successful local couple were Mr T. Bai and Miss G. Thomson, seen in action at left. Readers of "Photo News" will remember a series of open-air dancing pictures published last year which featured this couple. They won the Gisborne Residents' Open Championship, the Reg.Miller Trophy, and were third in the open grade Modern Waltz. Miss Thomson also won the Bronze-Silver Draw Partner event with Mr T. Neill.
