Bridge Rebuilt

Access has always been a problem for the Waipaoa Station, New Zealand's largest in head of stock carried. The station homestead and associated buildings lie just across the turbulent Waipaoa River, 45 miles inland from Gisborne.

For years, a foot­bridge was the only means of access except when the river was low enough to ford.

Then, two or three years ago, a road bridge washed away. Now a new bridge, seen lower right in picture above, is a-building.
