The Fizgerald Block at Kaiti viewed from Kaiti Hill. Work has now been started on the preliminary levelling and drainage of this block in preparation for the erection of more State houses. The contract, in the hands of A. Monk Ltd., who were formerly occupied on the Waipaoa Catchment Board scheme, called for the movement of 11,300 cubic feet of earth and the construction of 46 1/2 chains of streets.

According to Maoris in the district, only two or three yellow sea snakes have been caught along the East Coast in the last 20 years. This one, 35in long, was caught off Snapper Rock at Hicks Bay by Terry O'Connor, Desmond Road, Gisborne, seen here holding the fish.
