A Fast Sport

Hockey on ice skates is known as the fastest sport in the wide world. Over the last few months Gisborne residents have had an opportunity to see its equivalent, hockey played on roller skates. The new game, played on the first-class rink at Alfred Cox Memorial Park, is plenty fast, and exciting to watch.

The two Gisborne teams seen put on a display at a recent skating carnival at the park. Play ranged smartly from one end of the rink to the other, and there were plenty of brisk attempts to goal. With the ball often flying through the air, and occasionally hitting parked cars or making spectators duck, there was plenty to keep the watchers alert too.
