The Day They Held the Sports at Makarori

Makarori is far enough from Gisborne (eight miles), and the settlement of beach houses (about 40) is large enough, for this popular resort to have a distinctive character of its own. In the easy informality which characterises Gisborne people, the residents of Makarori, with their friends, and their children, and their dogs, gather on the beach once a year for their annual sports. There are motor-boat races, dinghy races, swimming races, and running races, free ice-creams for the younger contingent, and a lot of fun for everybody.

Scene shows pair-car dinghy entrants getting ready for one of the day's big events.
